"Less than 2 months is not several months. Is there any official wording that he gave up?

Frankly speaking I bought R9000 mainly for VPN use as my RT-AC68U was not powerful enough and R9000 had the strongest CPU. Now I think I would go for RT-AC86U (half cheaper) which has 1.8Ghz dual-core (not quad - but that doesn't matter for single thread OpenVPN). Merlin support, development and community help is very good with Asus.

With DD-WRT there seems to be always some issues, problems with PPPoE, problem with VLAN ID setup, which are point and click in Asus."

Wait for rt-ax88u. It's officially announced on Asus website and should appear on the markets shelf soon.

CPU is the same though, so it doesn't make a difference unless you need more ethernet ports.

Thanks labo.

If I may add two cents.

I've done beta-testing for Netgear on a number of occasions. I know that its hardware, at least of those that I tested, are good. But its software dept. is way below standards that I'd expect of s/w developments in a competitive market (routers). Believe me, I told them but not in so many words.

As an example, it has used for sometime now the same web GUI that has confusing functions overlapping basic and advanced features.

Given the above, I think Netgear should have made it EASIER for developers like KONG to port its new and advanced features into DD-WRT. After all, why should Netgear care whether consumers are using its stock firmware or not, AS LONG AS it sells more of its routers, right?

Well, it would appear that Netgear does not think so. It's sad.

Seems like we all got his attention finally... Very Happy

Unfortunately, the firmware is broken, No radio is transmitting. Crying or Very sad

Edit: Update
It is working. I had to reset the router and setup wireless from scratch.

Yes, I had to reset. Loading back saved config breaks wireless which doesn't work.
Some compatibility issue between BS and Kong builds Wink
Now will have to everything manually including VPN.. Sad

Absolutely agree. I was beta tester as well and many times suggested Netgear to do some Netgear functionality and GUI improvements but they did very little changes or nothing. They prefer to keep the firmware as simple as possible for stability. Watch Netgear reviews on BestBuy, Amazon, NewEgg and other big stores and is difficult to not agree with them.

Newest Kong firmware (34880M) is working well for me but I had to reprogram all settings from scratch. One thing isn't working for me and this issue persist still (I tried many older firmwares Kong's and BS). When I'm enabling QOS and OpenVPN together the router is going to rebooting loop immediately. Disabling OpenVPN solving this issue but I need OpenVPN
Kong, any suggestions?

I found out the root cause of the Restore Config File not working compatibility issue.
The culprit was the Wireless Security option: "Disable EAPOL Key Retries "
If you have this "Enabled" in your saved config file then all ratios will shutoff once you restore the configuration after update.

To get it back to work, just disable this option.

@Kong,
The latest firmware doesn't work with option:

Disable EAPOL Key Retries: Enabled.
If enabled the Radio shutsoff.

Thanks,

Is anyone using Astrill applet? On VPN "connect" HTTP GUI stops responding. The only way to make it working back is to kill it and re-enable it via ssh. This issue is present on latest FW v3.0-r34880M, it was not present in December build.

I guess it has to be some bug in the new FW? I did a full reset of router settings.

Does anyone have FW from December?
