It is a fully functional dd-wrt router except the 60GHz radio. IMO it is not getting enough attention from the Devs like the R7800 gets.
Things might get better with BS's current efforts on moving to 4.14 kernel.
thats not true. i just can't test 60 ghz, i can't find any test client hardware. my efforts are focused on all platforms like the led code i wrote for ath10k which affects the r9000 and the r7800 at the same time. 4.14 is booting on the r9000 already, but pci does somehow not work. since i found some netfilter related bugs in 4.14, i wont migrate yet to the 4.14 kernel. but all the major enhancements you have seen recently in kongs builds are in fact written by me. (see the new eoip gui etc.)
First of all, Thanks for all your efforts.. BrainSlayer!
We all do realize and appreciate your hard work in porting dd-wrt onto R9000.
Especially in recent weeks, there are quite a few fixes.enhancements from you and Kong which has made R9000 as a solid stable router now.
I think only few things are left now to call it as best suported router, such as
PPPOE and VLAN support issues. And some folks want to switch 10Gb port for WAN.
Regarding 60Ghz radios, I did try few months ago to connect my two R9000s as WDS bridge but didn't work that time.
I can try this again and if anything got fixed recently.
I think we all will continue to support and put more contributions in the coming months.
try connecting them in client mode with nat, wds isnt a good way to check for wifi stability as its an entire different (non "standard" even) portion of wifi, a platform could have near perfect wifi but still no wds support added or working _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

I'm seeming to be having issues with getting VHT160. None of my devices can see the SSID. I have also used a network analyzer and I can't see a signal.
I've never used VHT160 before but expected it to work at the rest of speed setting.

@ johnw230873,
I have been using VHT160(80+80) mode with 4 repeater bridges. No issues.
Please set as follows:
Wireless Channel: 144
Extension Channel: LL(-6)
Should work like charm. _________________ ASUS GT-BE98 PRO Main: Fiber 5gbps up/down

Thanks, Labo I've set my settings to yours and now I'm seeing a SSID, still a bit odd I can only see 1 80Mhz signal and if I flick to VHT160 (not 80/80) I'm still only seeing an 80 Mhz channel, is this normal for VHT160?
From the latest build I have had these issues
PPPOE would not try to connect
I did turn on syslog but couldn't see any logs being generated.
I did flick my modem over to PPPOA and turned the WAN port into DHCP, this work fine then but I did notice that when I removed the WAN cable after the connection the Router (and syslog) didn't report I have pulled the cable out.
freedns DDNS kept on saying wrong username/password. I fixed this by using custom option in the DDNS page.
If there are options to put syslog into full debug happy to do this to garther more logs for the PPPOE issue.

u need a vht160/80+80 compatible device in order to use the 160/80+80 bandwidth.. same way as using 40mhz on 2.4ghz n, devices that support it use it, those that dont use 20mhz _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

Thanks again, Kong! Great work,
Now the sys logger time is synchronized as well.
Wi-Fi leds working now!
Yes, WiFi Leds are working so Kong should definitely update "readme" file.
Unfortunately this latest build v3.0-r35000M std (02/14/1 is causing some stability issues on R9000, which randomly reboots every few days. I had some previous Kongs builds running stable for weeks.

I have not noticed any crash, but I can't say for sure as I have been switching back and forth on Kong and BS builds for testing.
However, one issue that I noticed was the internal Flash mounting to jffs not working in Kong's build.
I tried BS build: r35034 std (02/17/18 ) which Worked fine:
ubi1:ddwrt 257.0M 6.9M 245.5M 3% /jffs
@Kong,
Looks like in your latest build: r35000M std (02/14/18 ) the Internal Flash, ubi1:ddwrt is not getting mounted on to /jffs
I tried command:
Code:
erase ddwrt
reboot
Still it didn't mount the flash drive. I also tried from GUI as well but no luck.
Can you please take a look?
Thanks in advance. _________________ ASUS GT-BE98 PRO Main: Fiber 5gbps up/down

I'm going to be running more tests but has anyone else found that going over the bridge other than br0 is slower than expected.
I thought I had speed difference between my standard network and my VAP so I performed this test.
Factory reset router
keep wifi setting as per the out of box.
create a VAP on 2.4ghz (WPA2 Personal)
kept the VAP as default
created a bridge br1
bridged br1 to the VAP
placed br1 in a difference subset
create dhcp address's to br1
When I connect to the VAP and run speed tests to www.speedtest.net from my phone I get a speed of 60`70ish % of what I get if I connected my phone to non VAP on the same radio.
As said I will be trying to work this out but if anyone else has seen this is would be great to know it isn't just me.

Thats nice numbers. Only issue is the uploading Bufferbloat. Do you have QOS turned on? _________________ ASUS GT-BE98 PRO Main: Fiber 5gbps up/down

No, I don't have QoS turned on. Definitely wish I was getting speeds like Booster! Wow!
Just reran the test and got 36ms download and 41ms upload of Bufferbloat.
I break 900s for download in the middle of the test but it always drops at the last couple seconds to 860s. Wish it would finish strong haha
Booster... care to share some recommended configurations? Did you do anything special or different? _________________ Modem: Arris SB8200

Tested Routers to replace my WRT1900AC that was experiencing speed issue. (March 2018)
-WRT3200ACM - Probably ran the best out of the three but lots of reported issues on forum. Didn't want to keep it just in case.
-R7800 - Worked great after WAN interrupt tweak. Still liked the R9000 better since I didn't need to tweak it and performance was the same with LAN.
-R9000 - Ended up replacing previous router with this. Ran the best Wi-Fi out of the three without having to tweak anything. Beast of a router too!
Running Motorola MB8600 to R9000 connected to Cisco 20 port switch on Cox Gigabit at 900+ Mb and YAMon3 for usage.

If it helps I’ve been having difficulty with the latest versions on BS builds where the 5GHz VAP’s don’t seem to be always inserting into the system correctly as I can see them on the wireless pages but they are missing on the network page so I can’t bridge them etc.
I experience this on builds 35034 & 35244
I don’t experience this on Kong’s 35000 build and also if I load a config from 35000 into either 35034 or 35244 it loads and functions correctly, hence why I think it is when the settings are being applied in the web interface.
I have also found with Kong that when running openVPN if I try to create another VAP for this and bridge it to a new bridge (say br1) I have mixed results. With Kongs the connection becomes unstable if I turn on my utorrent & sonar machine and with BS I found it is very unstable where my phone won’t see the internet with or without the openvpn tunnel created.
If I don’t bridge auth0.1 and instead apply the new subnet to the auth0.1 VAP, the openvpn connection stays stable, so seems to be in the bridge setup somewhere.
kyle1519 you asked about openvpn on the route, my goal is to have 3 different wifi networks in the house
1) General network with general access
2) Isolated internet network to host my security cameras
3) VPN network for easy geolocked content.
I also want to tag some ports to the VPN network so easy access on the router but due to no Vlan support I can’t achieve this at the moment.

Yes, I had the same issue, you can workaround by going to:
Services Page, disable dnsmasq apply, then enable again and apply.
Should fix the issue. _________________ ASUS GT-BE98 PRO Main: Fiber 5gbps up/down
