Hi,

Just wondering if any fellow dir-880l users can share the procedure they used for flashing ddwrt to their router?

Also, what versions of the firmware people are using that are stable?

Cheers

High,

just do the standard procedure...

I don't know about the versions that will work, but a lot of people encountered (partly) bricked routers with versions later than 07-30-2016-r30342.

That's what I did (no guarantee, what so ever):

- Start you DIR-880L and do (configure) what is necessary, that you can access the update page on the DIR.
- Download factory-to-ddwrt.bin for the DIR-880L from the DD-WRT website (Router Database -> Other Downloads -> Betas -> ...
- Download the dir880-webflash.bin from the same directory.
- Flash the factory-to-ddwrt.bin
- Reboot your router and flash dir880-webflash.bin
- Configure DD-WRT

As already mentioned, I don't know if versions later than 07-30-2016-r30342 will work. I went back to 07-30-2016-r30342 after I had to recover my (partly) bricked router after an update.

-well first reset settings before update... this is vital
-use factory to dd-wrt for first flash, do it from D-link
web interface
-after you flash it with factory to dd-wrt use the other file dir880-webflash flash it again from web interface
use restore to factory settings on flash interface or hard reset after dir880-webflash flash than you can enjoy DD-WRT
with clean install Wink Good Luck!

use builds from here ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/

build 30731 is reported as working...

Ok..

So I got dd-wrt working.. temporarily

however when I unplugged the router and moved it back to it's normal resting place and plugged it back in, I wasn't able to login to the control panel with the password I set. (just 'root' for uname and pw) but the network was still active so all the devices i connected before moving it were still able to use internet.

I tried a hard reset which is supposed to reset the webgui login to 'root' 'admin' but that didn't work so i've now reverted back to stock firmware.

this was with build 30342 btw.

Is there anything that I may have done wrong during installation to cause that?

I'm going to try install that build again tomorrow and leave the router on for longer before attempting to move it.
