These errors seem to be normal and not effect actual performance so i guess i will ignore these.

Yup, the error counters commonly increment during boot; driver noise. Smile I recall Kong talking about this in a thread last year, but couldn't find it in a quick search. So unless you're seeing a high consistent percentage, its nothing to be concerned with. Even if you did have continually incrementing errors, it could be due to a client with weak signal.

Hi everyone,
I had previously installed dd-wrt to my Netgear WNDR4500 V2 router. I followed the directions in the following link:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Netgear_WNDR4500
At the time I did this, I believe the build number was different and a lower build number. Currently the build number is: 26138 mega for WNDR4500v2 for the initial flash of this router.
Originally, I bricked my router and needed to access it using the serial connection inside which took a while but did finally work and I was able to reload the Netgear original firmware back into the unit and it is still working today.
I would like to try dd-wrt again on this router.

I noticed that in jwh7's footer in messages he has posted that reference is made to "WNDR4500v2 & WNDR4000@533 k3x, 27858:" which I assume is build number 27858 for the WNDR4500v2, and I found what I think are those files (.bin and .chk)at:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/09-28-2015-r27858/netgear-wndr4500v2/.

What I don't understand is which files I should or can install in my router? Those files I referenced above are from 09/2015. Should I use those or, since I am doing the firmware and an upgrade, should I use something more current such as the 12/15 2016 build 30949?

In my previous attempt, I did read all that was advised to read, and followed the peacock thread and tried to follow the instructions word for word. What I did not see was any mention of the beta files and whether I should use them. I also do not see any release notes which would tell me if something is or is not working in a particular build.

I just don't want to have to try to access the serial port to have to fix this router again. That was quite a pain to get the timing right to be able to upload the original software again.

If anyone can help me and shed some light on this process, I will be very grateful.
Thank you,
Bill

No, 27858 is on the WRT's; the comma separates the builds in the DD f/w section, this is the relevant one:
jwh's footer wrote:
x64 pfSense 2.3.2p1|RT-N66U@663 Merlin 380.65b2|30949: WNDR4500v2 & WNDR4000@533 k3x, 27858: WRT54GSv6@250 µ
Thus, my 4500v2 is on 30949, though I did once have 27858 on it. I haven't updated the WRT's only cuz they're at my in-laws and have no issues. Smile Note; it takes quite a while after flashing the 4500v2 to reboot and come back online.
I'd recommend an "erase nvram && reboot" after updating, as well.
[Edit: I've color-coded the DD section now for clarity Smile ]

Thank you very much for clearing up my confusion.

Now, if I download the 30949 .chk and .bin files and follow the procedure outlined in http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Netgear_WNDR4500 using 30949, then following your advise to do a "erase nvram && reboot" I may be all set.?

If you are already on dd-wrt, you only need to use the .bin file.

Thank you.
I have had routers on dd-wrt before, but I did try with my netgear when I got it. It was nothing but trouble and I finally got the netgear software loaded back on it. But I want to try it once again. It has been a while so I will have to go back and re-read all of the articles and others step-by-step and once I am comfortable I will give it another shot. I would just hate to have go back through the serial connector and do that again. As I remember, it was a lot of ctrl-c and many many boot cycles before I was able to get the routers attention.
I will keep you posted of my success, hopefully, or my failures.
Thank you for all of your help.
BTW, I will need both files as the router currently has the netgear software on it.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi everyone.

EDIT: I moved this to a new thread since I found out more about why. It had a kernel panic. Maybe memory involved?

I am getting into more than I bargained for in my first post here, so please let me know if I should start a new thread or move this to another location.

I had the Netgear Stock firmware on my wndr4500v2 (WNDR4500v2-V1.0.0.62_1.0.39.chk) installed. I tried to install dd-wrt.v24-26138_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-WNDR4500V2.chk. When it booted I had an amber power light and my cable light illuminated and it went no further. So, I opened it up and re-schooled myself on connecting to the serial port and after switching ports and Tx/Rx lines I was able to get the CFE> prompt.
Oh yeah, I did ping and was getting ttl-100 two or three times so I knew I could get to the CFE> prompt.
I did an NVRAM ERASE and tftpd the Netgear software back in and it rebooted and I was able to get the GUI in the browser.
I moved this post to a new thread with more info.

So I downloaded again, from the wiki the dd-wrt...chk file incase the previous download was corrupted and tried to reload it. No joy.
So, using jwh7's post, I tried to load 27858.chk which didn't work and then tried 30949.chk which did not work.
The 26138 from the wiki should have worked according to the Peacock thread although it does contradict itself. But I keep going back to it because I also read that those in the ftp index are betas.
Please, if you can, point me in the right direction.
I have also logged the first boot of the newly reloaded Netgear from the serial port if that would be any help.
I will be back to check in later.

Thank you,
Bill
