I'm running into a weird bug on my Linksys EA6500v2:
The 2.4 GHz wireless only shows up if I set Wireless Security = TKIP + AES
The 5GHz wireless shows up fine with Wireless Security = AES

This issue has been around ever since I switched from the stock Linksys FW to DD-WRT.

Any thoughts on how to fix this / diagnose what is going on?

Configuration:
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r30949 std (12/15/16)
Kernel VersionLinux 4.4.39-rc1 #1615 SMP Wed Dec 14 16:57:09 CET 2016 armv7l

That is weird; have you done a reset? If so, try an 'erase nvram' from telnet (if that's safe on that model).

Do you know if you can do "erase nvram" from Command Shell in DD-WRT

FYI: I tried"
for line in `nvram show | grep =$ `; do var=${line%*=}; nvram unset $var; done
But I get this error "sh: eval: line 2: syntax error: unexpected word (expecting"

Yes, you just run "erase nvram" from telnet/ssh terminal or in the GUI Command window. The command you mention is to remove unused variables; very different thing.

Remember to reboot after issuing that. You could use this single line command:

erase nvram && reboot

Thanks. That seemed to make things better, but NVRAM is back up to 35K, while it was at about 28K prior to running the above command.

So is the 2.4 GHz radio working with AES now?

Now you can rerun the for loop command to clean out the nvram, if you so desire.

I am also having this problem.
Firmware Version
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/24/13) std - build 23204
Kernel Version
Linux 3.10.25 #685 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 24 04:30:28 CET 2013 armv7l

after running "erase nvram && reboot" last night every thing worked until this morning when the 2.4G stopped working again...
NVRAM is only 30.44KB was 29KB last night after erase.
I do not have the unused variables command saved, the router will not connect to the WAN with it saved.

You're saying that after you run that command, you lose WAN? And this is after you've already set up everything on the router and rebooted? There is a dedicated thread about using that nvram cleanup command; I've not used it myself.

The 2.4 SSID shows up and disappears across devices (3 mac, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads). There doesn't really seem to be any rhyme or reason to when the 2.4GHz SSID shows up or not.

Very annoying.

Anything else I can provide to help debug this issue?

The command to "clean" NVRAM is: nvram show | grep =$ `; do var=${line%*=}; nvram unset $var; done

But for me, it only worked when I telnet'd into my router

I have this same issue -- EA6500v2, upgraded off of r30709 to r31277 and 2.4GHz went bad. Can't seem to get it back. Although my issue is about signal strength than security config (my issue persists regardless of security settings) .

I created a similar post here.

@Iku-Turso, the way jwh7 posted the cleanup command is correct. Check out this page to manually set the startup script.
