Just got in to have a looksee..... dang!!! you aint kidding, this is bad on the WRT54G routers.
Can't get httpd to run more than few seconds. Never will load a page in the browser.
telnet in and use this - should install 31899 micro so will be good on any WRT54G router
I suggest to copy the code into a 'plain text' file
copy/paste one line at a time --- hit enter after each line
and yea you will need the router plugged into a live internet connection
Code:
erase nvram
cd /tmp
wget http://mrjcd.com/test/r31899/r31899_micro_generic.bin
write r31899_micro_generic.bin linux
reboot
'da_log'
Should be good to install whatever build you need now and reconfigure or use a backup

Did you try telnet like mrjcd suggested, or only serial?
@mrjcd, have you tried 32170 on a WRT54*? As I see you recommend the build before that, I was just curious. Guess you just never to tried, as I see nothing in the "New Build" thread. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

No I haven't .. they are getting into a lot of 'funny business' w/ the newer builds,
Don't know that the WRT54G is up to the task.
DO NOT PUT r32597 on a 2 MB flash WRT54G
Tis not good. I lost a WRT54GSv7 .... not sure if it is worth opening up the box ---
I also put it on a WAP54Gv3 but was able to recover with some tricky TFTP.... you can beat the WAPv3 with a hammer and they still work -- I know they are just crazy
The 2 MB flash very limited -- no logs / no wget / no good really.
