Hi,
I am trying to flash the DD-WRT firmware to my Linksys EA8500 router. I have been using this guide:
http://mrjcd.com/EA8500_DD-WRT/, bought the necessary USB/TTL cable in order to flash the router, but when I opened it up, noticed that my router did not have the 1x5 male pin header. What would you recommend I do?
Would you recommend buying a 1x5 male pin header or soldering directly to the traces? If I do need a pin header, any recommendations as to which one to get?

I had the same issue. What I did was used electronic test jumper leads with the little clips on each end (alligator clips). Just clip them on accordingly, paying attention they do not touch each other, and making sure they are making contact with the top of the board copper inserts. Worked like a charm! The second time I did it, I simply forced the header into the holes as far as it would go (keep in mind the pin holes that are not used will have to be clipped off on your header). It was basically a pressure fit, and that too worked. Just be careful when doing either method, if you choose to try. Do not connect anything with the unit powered up!
