So r34311 seems to be stable on your 878?

Already done since it is not the first dd-wrt firmware for the DIR series...

Minus the annoyances already mentioned in previous posts, Yes.

Update: Encountered an unscheduled reboot with the DIR-878 a few minutes ago. Will disable a configured Schedule Reboot to see if this reboot was random or an ongoing problem.

Check your logs to see if any entries are listed. If you had schedule reboot configured, was at this time or different? What do you have configured for the reboot?

I'm not sure that even the latest DD-WRT builds are stable on the DIR-878. I've been testing for several weeks now across several December & January DD-WRT builds and the router still reboots on me randomly during heavy upload activity. I can make it happen pretty consistently just by throwing a large (~ 2 GB) file in my Dropbox folder and allowing it to sync up to the cloud.

Not sure that this information helps you, but it could be related to the unscheduled reboots you're seeing? I've returned to the stock D-Link firmware for now, however performance and range are nowhere near as good as with DD-WRT.

Thanks for the observation jdubuc.
If the developers can replicate problem, perhaps they can correct it.

That would be great. I’m not too familiar with the DD-WRT project structure, but is there an official channel for reporting bugs like this? Also, I tried enabling the syslog to see whether I could get any information about what’s causing the reboot for me but came up blank. Does anyone know how one might go about trying to get some additional information about what’s going on for the DD-WRT devs?

Just to clarify, I have original FW out of the box.

1. Start upgrade firmware using factory-to-ddwrt.bin
2. Then install dlink-dir878-a1-webflash.bin ?

what is webflash, if its necessary?

The webflash is for when you want to upgrade to the next release or a previous one once already on dd-wrt.

Any improvement in speeds and stability at some of the latest builds? 35681?

Comments?

I am seriously considering buying this router soon.

Hi,

I have this router with original firmware:
Current Firmware Version: 1.10
Current Firmware Date: 2018-02-03T19:44:57

I tried to move to DD WRT using factory-to-ddwrt.bin from version r36168 and I get Firmware upgrade failed.

I also tried factory-to-ddwrt.bin from version r34080. Same Firmware upgrade failed.

Do you have an idea of what I can try to go to DD WRT?

Thank you[/b]

Never mind, I used recovery mode to flash factory-to-ddwrt.bin

Does DD-WRT unlock the 4th stream on the DIR-878? Meaning, can I get 800+1733 with DD-WRT?
