Hi,

NBN = Australia National Broadband Network (national fibre rollout - mostly hybrid connections like fibre + cable).

DD-WRT v3.0-r32802M kongat (07/24/17)

That is the only firmware that I have flashed since buying the router a few weeks back.

I have now upgraded from Telstra Cable 100/2.5mbps (down/up) to Telstra NBN HFC (fibre to the node, then cable is my understanding) which is supposed to provide up to 100/40mbps speeds.

If I plug my PC directly into the NBN supplied Arris CM8200 modem, I get 92/38 which is good and I'm ok with that.

If I plug the R7800 (WAN port) into the NBN modem I only get 98/3, so the upstream is 10x slower and about the same as my old cable connection.

The Telstra connection uses IPoE so doesn't need a username/password unlike PPPoE and I have seen a thread on another forum saying that the router should just be set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP". However mine is already set to that.

Is there anything additional that I need to be doing to get the faster upstream speed? Is there anything in the newer firmware that might enable this?

Regards,
Dave.

Just upgraded to the latest and still no change, upstream is still only 3-4mbps instead of 40. Grrr.

those speeds doesn't make a sense to me, R7800 is much more powerful unit, currently i have 100/100 static IP on it and with last Kong realise its working fine, so i guess your problem is user/bad settings related...
for more help please expose/provide more details/settings you are currently on...
the other option is if your ISP has an issues and cannot provide those speeds...

Thanks for the reply Alozaros.

Good to hear that 100/100 is possible with the R7800.

It can't be the ISP because if I plug my PC directly into the Arris modem I get 92/38.

I then plug the R7800 WAN port into the Arris modem, and my PC cable plugged into the R7800 and it goes down to ~98/3.

Note that the Arris modem only has one port in the back, so I can't get that wrong.

This performance happens even after a firmware reset, so before I've even start playing with the settings (other than entering a new password for the R7800).

It's got me stumped.

I'll try a couple of other things when I get home from work tonight, such as doing the nvram erase which I haven't done yet, and updating to that release you are using if I can find it.

I've current only done a reset via paperclip and firmware update.

I have no problem exposing the router. I'll also try to do that when I get home too and will PM you if you still think there is something worth looking at.

Cheers,
Dave

What WAN IP does the r7800 have when plugged into the Arris modem?

Hi guys,

I've PM'd you both with the router connection details. You're both in different timezones so shouldn't be much of an overlap.

Cheers,
Dave.

Not sure the special characters work for password... wouldn't let me login.

I assume you don't have QOS on --
Go to main setup page and disable the Shortcut Forwarding Engine.
See if that helps.
The r7800 should do 100/100 running half power Surprised

My original question about the WAN IP was just to see if it holds a pubic IP --- I see that it does.

Looks like several devices are connected from what I get on info page. I wouldn't feel comfortable making any changes that might disrupt your clients ---- but I don't mind to look.
On Services page make sure Syslogd & Klogd are enabled ........ and check your username/password --- hope you didn't lock yourself out Razz

Hi,

The password works fine, I'm actually able to log in from my work (which is where I am right now).

Did you use a zero within the password, sorry I should have mentioned that.

No problem with having the router reset or change. It's just my wife at home doing stuff and she is aware that it might reset or otherwise die unexpectedly with us fiddling.

I can also call her to run a speed test to verify if anything has changed.

I had tried disabling the Shortcut Forwarding Engine previously but it didn't change the speed.

I don't have QoS on.

I'll go and turn those logs on.

Cheers,
Dave.

That's weird, the u/p are correct. I even had a look at the PM I sent you and copy/pasted it into the password box. I'm able to connect on Chrome, FFox, IE.

My work is blocking the ddns url, so i'm just using:

IPAddress:8080

Then click the Status tab and the username/pwd box pops up, enter the details and it's all good.

Made a change on your static leases.
Note: if you want infinite lease time just leave 'Client Lease Time' blank.
I don't know that what you had entered has anythging to do with log mess. I've only ever seen that on my broadcom E2500 w/r33006 after a couple days.... I just reinstalled r32170 on it and its been happy....had a feeling the new r33006 may have a bug pulling static lease info--- I didn't reset the E2500 and try it.
But this problem has never showed on the EA8500 running r33006.

Not sure any of that has to do with your speed????
I guess it may have changed IP after the reboot ... may take a while before I can access it again.
BTW - I had no trouble getting to it by url --- must have taken a bit before the password was set or you did it after you sent PM

That looks to be possibly the Wireless Client MAC "allow" list. Probably checking whether they are allowed to connect or not.

I will disable that so the log doesn't get polluted, but I don't think this will be the problem because the speed problem existed prior to the wireless stuff being set up.

Thanks for the tip on the Client Lease Time.

Nah, the password was set when I updated the firmware yesterday. I blame ghosts.

Since this was my first time to look at the r7800 I have to ask this -
Has ath0 always been the 5GHz and above the 2.4 ath1 in dd-wrt GUI???

Seems strange to me Shocked

I'll get these stats when I get home tonight, probably not for 5 hours or so.
