Would a WRT1900AC V2 (supposedly ACS) be much more stable with any of the BS builds? I've seen a refurbished one for $80 and if it makes a big difference, I will get that and use my V1 as another hotspot.
However, before I spend $80 on another WRT1900AC, has anyone tried DD-WRT (or even stock) on other AC WIFI routers (Asus, etc.) and found they were MUCH better than the WRT1900AC V1? I'd rather just have a stable router - the stock firmware was terrible.
Yes. The WRT1900AC v1 is the one with stability issues on firmware after 5/02/2017-31924.

RichMD,
The WRT series suck as a lot. The marvell chipset is faulty. The 3200 freezes up when a qualcomm chipset phone [Sony, Samsung S7, S8} connects on and off for around 14 hours. This happens on both Stock and DD-WRT FW. The exact issue is the 5ghz stops [cannot connect] and the GUI becomes slow and unresponsive thus requiring a manual restart because you no long have 5g. The phones simply connect to 2.4g so may not even know this has happened for days, weeks, until you look.
Everyone.
Do we know if this is true or not for the WRT1900?

I have a 1900ACv1 and I have all kinds of stability issues with it using the latest betas from 2018. I have found this thread and would like to download version 5/02/2017-31924 - but I can't find it. Why is it not posted anywhere any longer? Is there a more stable version I should be using now??

If you are using it as a router, there is an update that may fix your problem (I think you mean it is rebooting?) that came out about 10 hours ago, has been merged to DD-WRT, just have to wait for BS to make a new build.
If you can't wait, both the Factory to DD-WRT and webflash files are right in the sticky thread at the top with 31924.
There have been a few security updates since then, including KRACK though...

Mine isn't rebooting - but the performance degrades horribly after about 2 days. Both wireless speeds and direct network throughput get continually slower over time. Ping time goes up, download speeds decrease, etc. A reboot fixes everything.
Thanks for the info - I'll check out the latest build when it's available. I currently find that the betas ftp / website is only available about one day a week. The rest of the time, the site seems down.
I'll also add that the longest I have been able to keep my 1900ACv1 online with any of the betas from Feb 2018 is about 2 days. After about 2 days, the device becomes unreachable over any network interface. It seems to be completely frozen up. I have to power it off and then back on to get it back and working.
I'm not familiar enough with DD-WRT right now to know how to capture any logs that might tell me what is going on.
Ok, I have successfully rolled it back to version DD-WRT v3.0-r31924 std (05/02/17). I'll see if it remains stable. I realize I am missing a lot of security tweaks, but I'll trade that right now for stability.

This FW version should run for months without issue on the WRT1900AC v1, at least it does for me _________________ Linksys WRT32X v1 - r45677

+1 and with openvpn client enabled, fwiw I do have a scheduled reboot every morning. School lab use so sometimes as many as 15-20 wireless clients connected, one server, one nas, 5 wireless cameras, few phones... i do disable the vpn client and cameras when 15--20 laptops are connected during exams, exams software can be pretty slow if i dont. That could be my desktop that runs the exam server and camera software too though.
rock solid for me on 2.4 and 5ghz.... month after month
I thought i would try the r8000 since there has been some praise of it lately, configured for wireless repeater exactly like the wiki said.... bricked first try. Im a noob so the wrt series double partition is a blessing.
(recently swapped out with my home wrt3200 due to the better vpn client performance, but no change... 1900v1 as rock solid at home)
I use r31924. Does anyone notice the USB port is really slow? Before with stock firmware I could transfer things at around 70 MB/S. With r31924 I am lucky to get 20. Other than that it seems to run just fine.
I've been running r31924 now for over a week I think. It's much, much more stable than the latest betas, which is a shame. I'd really like to have the latest krack security fixes in place.
Looking to recover my router from a brick. Got the appropriate cable and software. I'm looking for the img file for this build though so I can flash it over serial. I can only find bin files.

The file extension doesn't matter.
You can either rename the factory-to-ddwrt.bin file to blk-mamba.128mb.img or you can use the U-BOOT command setenv firmware_name factory-to-ddwrt.bin.
* blk-mamba.128mb.img is the Linksys Stock Firmware name that the Bootloader expects.
** Personally, I would just rename the Firmware file.
