Hi,
I have very poor wi-fi signal strength upstairs from my landlord's router downstairs in his office (internet is included in my rent), so I want to use an old router I have as a wireless repeater. I'm using a dd-wrt custom firmware from 2016. Using this well-regarded guide - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge - I can't get my Cisco WRT320N router to work as a wireless repeater. It hangs at at the end of Step 7 on the "Applying Settings" screen so I can't even select the reboot option ( I have to pull the power cord out). Also, there's another router downstairs that my landlord is using as a wireless repeater which may be using the IP 192.168.1.2 so I selected 192.168.1.9 for the router I'm trying to get working as a repeater. Is this okay? Also, I can't access the router once I change the IP to 192.168.1.9. I'm using Windows 10 so how do I force it to recognize the newly assigned IP?
Greetings; what exact build are you using? Also please read the Peacock announcement. If its a k2.6 build, repeater modes are broken in after 26125; there are many threads about this. Last I knew, mrjcd recommends 25974. Or you could use recent k3.x builds, assuming they work with that model, but be very careful as some of the latest builds are bad esp. for MIPS routers.
Also, why are you using Repeater Bridge instead of Repeater? The former allows the landlord's network to potentially access yours. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm using build 30880 (dd-wrt.v24-30880_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt320n.bin). I was just following the guide as exactly as I could to help maximize my success so that's why I selected Bridge for now. I'll change it later if I succeed and have a better understanding of this. Total newbie here and not too technically inclined about routers and using them as repeaters. Sometimes I wonder if I've even got the right host (Landlord's router) IP. Here's a screen cap of my WiFi Network config upstairs.

Check "New Build" threads for the WRT320N or E2000. I see someone used K3.x 31221 on it though, so should be fine...
Note: since you're running DD, you should be able to install the non-trailed nv60k.bin file (I presume nv60k since that's what E2000 uses).
Thx. I'll try it and let you know how I made out. I ordered a 20 Dbi antenna from ebay that I'm hoping will work also in giving me a strong, stable signal if I don't succeed with the Repeater though I prefer the repeater setup.

Okay, I flashed to r32170 and at least everything "took" this time and didn't hang at Step 7. Now what? I don't see the WRT320N showing up in Windows 10 network connections as a wireless connection or anything at all relating to the WRT320N. How do I test to see if the repeater is actually repeating my landlord's router downstairs and how do I discover it?
Here are screen caps of all my settings using that tutorial. Is anything amiss? I'm assuming the "WPS Shared Key" is the password I use to log into my landlord's router downstairs
I changed the SSID name in the virtual interface and it finally showed up. Unfortunately, I got the "Couldn't log-into this network" error when I tried to log into it Yes, I made certain that my landlord's IP was set to 192.168.1.1.
You should do this a step at a time to see where the probem is.
Turn off wireless on your PC.
Plug router into PC and log in at whatever LAN IP you have set.
You may have to set a static IP on your computer to do this -- recommended to do so during setup anyways.
Go to routerIp/Status_Wireless.asp to see if your bridge is connected. If you don't see it then you need to make adjustments to either its SSID or password or mode of connection (probably best to leave that as mixed). If in range of primary router it should connect.
Once you establish the bridge then you should be able to switch computer back to auto DHCP and get an IP & DNS.
If that don't work then reboot your PC.
Ok once the bridge is made and working then setup the VAP .... any changes made to it will likely require a router reboot for all to work and it may take a few minutes after startup to fully connect to primary router.
If all is set correctly then put the router wherever you need to and switch on your PC wireless (make sure it is also back on auto DHCP).
Should be able to see the VAP SSID and connect using its password.
Really handy to have a phone or other wireless device around so you can easily connect to the routers VAP to see
if working without having to do so many changes on the PC
~ all connections will show on the wireless status page ~
EDIT:
I see you chose LAN IP 192.168.1.9 ... that is ok if not in use by another device.
If still having trouble try setting your RB router LAN IP to 192.168.1.250 or 253 ... those are not likely to be used --- just remember what you set it to so you will be able to access it
hmm.. also see he is running some type repeater. Need to make sure your are not connected to his repeater -- prolly won't work well. Also two repeaters connected to same main can sometimes cause strange things depending on what they are ---i just remember that from the old days playing with some dd-wrt builds
You should also do a reset after flashing from k2.6 to k3.x, then set up manually. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

Alas, it's quite possible I am attached to his repeater, but I'll play around with the advice you gave me and see what happens. I'll let you know of any success. Thanks again.
