Hello friends

I have successfully installed the ddwrt firmware on my router tplink tl-wr941nd-v6

i am really confused with the interface and settings can someone please help me configure the router to work.

the situation is

i have a dlink Dir 816 router and its connected to a fiber optic modem (WANconnected to Dir 816)

the LAN speed on Dir 816 is around 100mbps(DL)
no much WiFi coverage and WiFi speeds are low on Dir

here i want to configure the tplink TL wr 941nd v6 running ddwrt build 30949

and i am confused on how to do it

1. will replacing the Dir with tplink work?
Reason for this to be connected with wan port is
Dir runs on 5ghz since its a dual band router whereas tplink is only 2.4ghz. and hope i get a good coverage using dlink as secondary router via repeater mode on router

that was the first scenario

2. configure tplink to Dir via wireless and get around 60-100mbps

that's the 2nd scenario

and i don't know what to choose for the best connectivity and speed and also don't know to configure ddwrt as its interface is complicated for me

can someone please help me configure the router.

all i want is a good speed on WiFi and i expect it to be around 60-100mbps on WiFi

screenshots can be found

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B6hiEADRQSh_Q3dJbUtzcVN3Tk0?usp=sharing

please help me out.
thanks and regards

well, my advise is to eliminate Dir 816 and do not run a double NAT heaving 2 routers in cascade mode....

option 1
keep DIR router and put DD-WRT router in WAP mode
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point

option 2
so so you have 100MBit DL you can run only DD-WRT router and
leave DIR 816 a side i believe 941 will be able to handle
100 MBi on 2.4Ghz WI-FI with no issues...

if you ware you i 'd stick to option 2
so to set DD-WRT wireless at its best speed
choose: country domain settings Canada or Haiti for best TX rate, set wi fi to channel 11 + lower at 40HT, NG mixed, Noise Immunity selected, short Preamble, Short GI,Protection Mode none, RTS Threshold disabled...
http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/QCA_wireless_settings

good luck Razz

hey thanks for the reply
It makes me choose option 2

to make it as a primary router and dump the dir

the thing is i am noob to these stuff and don't know to configure the router.

because the isp gave me a modem to be connected to router wan and made some static ip configuration

on ddwrt what changes has to be made,
as i want both lan port, wan and wifi working
there are few equipments connected to the router through lan and they can't run on wifi

thanks and regards

First of all upgrade the firmware on the TP-Link to at least 33215, possibly 33413. See my signature.

See the best Wireless settings here: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Atheros/ath_wireless_settings

Also, I second the solution already offered. Wireless AP or replacement with TP-Link both will work.

well settings from DIR 816 copy paste to DD-WRT router,
if its static IP you have to choose static
from--->

Basic Setup>Connection Type>Static

than paste settings from DIR >

WAN IP address>Subnet mask>Gateway>DNS IP

if your connection is PPPoE than add PPPoE settings

if you cannot do those settings alone you have to gain some knowledge by more reading/patience http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page that's how i started back in the days ... its simple...
As someone said... im trying to teach you to fish if you just want fish go find the fishermen who sales fish Wink

it feel's like you are going to Doctor but not sharing
the symptoms...what you expect ????

1. What is your connection type with ISP ?? are you sure ???
2.Does your ISP has any requirements like routers MAC Address ??
3.is your modem set to a bridge mode, what brand is it, what type is it???

If you can answer those questions you can google and read how to....

nobody will help and guess your mystery as this is not possible, especially with no data provided ....
keep reading and you will get what you want ....

Laughing

ok so here is the details
1. my isp is a local fiberoptic guy
there is a lan (rj45) output from their modem (which is connected via fiberoptic cable)

then that rj 45 goes to the dlink router
static ip configuration is made
wifi settings
and mac id is binded with isp.

2. yes mac id binding is there with isp

3. coming to their modem i got no clue what cable it is
there is a conversion of fiberoptic cable in a small box than that is convereted to another smaller cable (no idea on what type it is)

but all I know is without their modem I cannot connect to internet

last night I did some client mode setup as guided and its working but its connected wired from dir to ddwrt
and unable to login to ddwrt

details of ddwrt

router ip
192.168.1.1

gateway

192.168.0.1 (dir router login)

local dns
the one given by isp

wan disabled
dhcp disabled

am i going to do a 30-30-30 reset and give a try

i tried wan auto config
but it shows wan as 0
only dns is been shown

i tried to set it as static ip
on the router the internet logo turn to blue from pink

still not able to connect to the isp website for login

mac id is not a issue i guess
because with all the details like static ip, dns and all it has to take me to the isp website to login

there it has to display a message saying mac address do not match

since it is not taking to the ip website
i am not sure what to do

any livechat or remote access would be more easy for me

thanks and regards

1. set DD-WRT router IP different from 192.168.1.1 couse it
can interfere with modem IP something like 192.168.50.1
(do not set local DNS leave it 0.0.0.0 as it is)
2. set DD-WRT router to static WAN and add all details
from DIR IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS
3. set mac address clone same like DIR 816 address
do them both...
4.make sure your modem is in bridge mode so all DNS and DHCP will be performed on DD-WRT router

The other option is if your WAN connection interface is PPPoE than copy paste details and it must be working
if its not working in that way than contact your ISP and ask how to or ask for details

if you tried already directly rj45 to WAN DD-WRT you wont make it work without modem....

here is the latest update

dir is switched off and kept inside Laughing

it is taking a rest
now forget about dir 816

since the settings were complicated
caleed up isp

here is what i did

static ip was set
wifi is open (for sometime)
Laughing

changed router ip from
192.168.1.1 to 192.168.100.7

everything except lan is working

how i have connected is here

1. rj45 from modem to ddwrt ethernet port
tried to connect that to wan port there were errors

now i connect lan from ddwrt to pc (ethernet port)
the browser takes me to router login page and there is an issue saying mac do not match

removed lan and connected to wifi everythiing is fine

now what changes has to be made
to make

1. connection from modem to ddwrt on wan port
2. ddwrt ethernet port to pc (working)

attachments included
1. ddwrt system info
2. wan config
3. lan config

wifi will see later , let the basic be setup and get going

thanks and regards
