|
I have had a few issues with setting this up. I want to be able to have someone log onto my wifi network and have read-only access to one public shared folder without a password, while having another private share folder that is password protected. I want to be able to log into the SAMBA and be able to read-write to both folders.
Right now, if I access the SAMBA, for some reason I am prompted for Network Credentials when I click on the Network Device, despite already logging onto the Wifi connection and having a public share folder. If I type in the full UNC path, I am able to go right into the folder without needing a password and if I use anything other than my laptop I don't need to input a password (phones and Raspberry Pi work without a password). It is only a slight annoyance, since I just can leave the credentials blank and okay through them.
Is there any way around that password so I just need only need to log onto the Wifi Network and just type in a User/Pass if I am going into my Private folder?
Also, I tried creating the ability to have user-associated read-write access, as I want to be able to read and write to that read-only public share. What I did is map the exact same location twice; once as public read-only and once non-public with read/write. They are pulling from the same location, but I assigned different ShareNames, as I thought this would accomplish what I am trying to do.
The reason I made those changes is that I found out after some time of just having the public share as read-only, that I could not write to the Public folder. I had assumed that the user record checkboxes for the Shared Folders would supercede the read-only option set on the folder, but I guess it didn't.
Anyways, I made those changes, but it screwed everything up. I was not able to access either of the Public folders (read only/Public and read-write/Public2 versions)Not sure if I can create 2 different shares from one mount location or not or what I am doing wrong.
I just want 2 shared folders that I can (as the admin) read-write to whenever I want.
I want one shared folder to be completely private and password protected and one to be public with read-only access for everyone other than myself that would require me to log-in, in order to use the read-write capability.
Any Ideas?
-Is this something that is doable with default firmware (no optware or start scripts)?
-Do I need to use Virtual SSIDs?
-Can I setup 2 shares to pull from one location and if they can, does the drive need to be mounted to 2 locations manually?
-Do I need optware or a better DD-WRT version that has this functionality? (i am running an alpha for the TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 v4 (US) https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1106283#1106283)
-Do I need to set permissions via command line, since they are a bit more complex?
Thanks,

First of all update to a build from the link in my signature. I would currently suggest 33772, as 33986 is not good on my Archer C7v2. See the Build thread for what I and several others are having issues with.
Second, you should be able to do what you want to do, within dd-wrt, without scripts or add-on software (Optware, Entware). The issue is permissions.
I have not used Samba in some time. _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.
