I live in Germany in the Munich area. I am not that brave to open the router but if I could be of any other help, please let me know. Maybe Kong lives somewhere close and I can bring over my router.
you can ask it himself, on page 2 of this thread he answered, look at that answer and you can PM (Personal Message) him to ask it.
Some of us know where he lives but of course we are not at liberty to tell.

I will give it a go and see where my braveness ends. ( wasn't that a Dutch invention ? )

I cannot find any site nor store that sells that USB to Serial cabel, except from that one in the document. But that takes 16-36 days for free delivery. And for $37 extra it take 7-15 days. But that exceeds my braveness for a $1.41 cable.
Also do not exactly which one I need as there are several different types :

Can't figure out from the specs ofthe R6400v2 https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Netgear_R6400v2
You don't need that specific hardware... You just need a USB TTL Converter that has drivers for your OS... I think that the baud rate is configurable sw side.

So what to do ?

It is good to see that the serial header is present so it should be easy.
Present and pre-labeled, even; "V G T R".
@Navelpluiz: Vcc-Ground-Tx-Rx ...don't use the Vcc (+3.3v) pin. Prob still a good idea to verify the pins w/ a meter though.
Sorry for the late respond: had some issues and i have switched ISP's and now i am on fibre.
@ egc: thanks for the link i will purchase that cable.
@ Big J: yes i already took notice of the fact not using the VCC(+3,3V). Having said that,my knowledge (more specific experience) on this level of electronics is poor.So verifying with a meter, which i dont have,I have to skip.(centimeters I have plenty but not of any use in this matter ).
So please lead me in this. i read this :
There are four wires: red power, black ground, white RX into USB port, and green TX out of the USB port.
The power pin provides the 5V @ 500mA direct from the USB port and the RX/TX pins are 3.3V level for interfacing with the most common 3.3V logic level chipsets.
With the above and the document EGC provided,Ithink I have a pretty good idea of what to do. So please make me loose the "I think"part.
(need to eliminate all hazards of me frying the print plate or chip.Shit can happen but not by a stupid mistake )

Just an aside here on the 'make money with shipping costs' - I wish. Shipping overseas is expensive, and then, if I do ship something, there is a chance the recipient will have to pay duty on top. So yes, buying in the EUROZONE will be less expensive, faster, and probably cheaper, even if a US price + shipping seems to be so. Just for example, if I ship a POLO shirt the cost is at least 23$... Now that's just me, a regular dude, sending you a cigarweekly.com polo shirt... *sigh* Unlike china, we don't have government subsidizing our shipping costs... _________________ support DD-WRT and get great hosting!

off topic :
John wasnt meant to affent anyone/body ( surely not you). Fact is that those costs are redicoulous ( and not in proportion is my strong believe). And someone is making lots of of money on this. And the common people just have to obliege or shut up.
Read this about hosting companies, its all interresting but what I was referring at is part 3: Hosting companies tricks.
(I worked in those environments also and if you think about what they real strategy behind it all is, its like geting F#$$%$ed from behind and seeing an inocent face smilling at you.But hey what can you do ? ( NOT: smile back and enjoy it )

Guys,
please confirm this is the right way the wires should be connected : see picture.
I made sure putty loggs all output from the serial connection to file.
Do we only need the boot process output or should I interfer and follow some procedure to get the info needed.

If you are getting valid output, and can type into the console, then it's connected properly. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#
