I have also a new WRT3200ACM device and cant install any third party firmware. I bought a TTL-usb cable to see what happens when flashing the device. I do not get wiser of that. Is there maybe someone that can give remote support to get it to work? Kind Regards, Matthijs

So I finally got my USB-TTL and TFTP setup working and attempted multiple uploads of older factory firmware without success. Turns out that the kernel could not mount the system partition during boot. See details in Linksys support thread:

we should check the mtd layout before and after flashing new factory firmware.
since wrt32X is a wrt3200acm with a differnt mtd map, and people surmise that the newly-announced wrrt32B is a wrt32X with slightly differnt firmware, i'm wondering if linksys is moving the mtd map now. this is obviously speculation.

i will not be able to do serial access on my wrt3200/wrt32x until next week. i will report back.

Dumb question. Since these are "Openwrt and DD-WRT" ready has anyone called Linksys and asked how come?

Seems like something to do.

Hello,

yes, I have a case open with Linksys about this issue, and also on the Linksys community there are several other people having the same issue.

I will be called today or tomorrow by the engineering team, maybe they can provide a solution.

I flashed LEDE to both banks using the serial port and TFTPD.

Still wont boot, power light stays on and LAN just blinks nothing else.

Monitoring the router using Putty here is the loop the device gets stuck on:

This is exactly the same issue I'm having with a Brand New 3200ACM.

In summary; I have attempted to load several different builds using the factory-to-ddwrt with no success. I also attempted downgrading the factory firmware which caused the router to fail to fully boot, it would just sit with the ethernet1 port illuminated. After switching it on and off 3 times it booted back into the factory linksys fw.

Now at a complete loss of what to try next, short of cracking it open but I'd prefer not to do this.

I'm close to returning it to Amazon but not sure whether to purchase another and take my chances or to go for something else altogether.

Update - Linksys support concluded that the router had corrupt U-Boot and/or Nand, agreed to send me a replacement & RMA the defective one.

I'll report back when the new unit arrives to whether or not it will accept ddwrt...

After hearing about so many folks having problems flashing, I tried flashed my 3200acm on FW # 1.0.6.186168 to factory-to-ddwrt FW# r 34315 with the UI and had no problem.

With all the complaints I have been reading about, I'm becoming a little gun shy doing any flashing!

Been flashing the crap out of this wrt3200acm for well over a year.
I made every mistake humanly possible and haven't figured out any way to Fuck it up yet.
So if your's isn't flashing, it's probably defective and you need to get a RMA.

Do yourself a favor and return and get a Netgear r7800 or r8000. Cannot wait to get my r8000 (Wednesday) so I can decommission the wrt3200.

sry Bill,

I had big hopes too for the WRT series. But like my wife said, "hope" is different from "proven".

fyi--> I let her take a hammer to my WRT3200, she was as frustrated with poor internet then I was
