Update Trendnet 818DRU from earlier version

I have a Trendnet TEW-818DRU router running an older version of DD-WRT, v. 2. I'd like to update DD-WRT to a current beta of v. 3 so that I can give the router to somebody who desperately needs one.

Can anyone tell me if I need to do a 30-30-30 reset with this model before and after updating? Or can I just simply update the firmware in-place, letting DD-WRT reset everything to default?
