Hello

This text is translated as Translate Google does not speak English.

First congratulations to the developers of this site and the idea of having made an interface worthy of the name. Thanks to the contributors too.

I have different questions and advices to submit you in all the process, from the purchase to the final installation of a version of DD WRT.

I still read a lot on your site and points are clear.

I am in France and my ISP is SFR with a BOX Fiber: 4K which for those who do not know it is constricted for the routing of ports. Moreover, the interface is not the best and I want to do the VPN among others with Canada, for job search. In fact, transfer this geographical location.

I want to buy a linsys WRT1200 AC: I read the characteristics of the 2
- v1 fan and a motherboard model
- v2 no fan and a different motherboard model.

Since this is the first one I buy:

1st question:

a version 1 or version 2?

2nd question:

I am running Linuxmint 18 with Firefox, compatible with DD WRT installation?

3rd question:

Should I update when linsys version before installing DD WRT?

4th question:

Should we apply the rule of 30/30/30 on this model, I read contradictions.

So much for a first throw

Thank you for your answers and advice, see you soon.

Best Regards

I would recommend a WRT1900ACS V2.
It does not have a fan, but an external usb powered fan can be added for little money.
https://www.acinfinity.com/quiet-usb-fans/

I don't use Linux, but I am sure you will have no trouble flashing your router from a Linux machine or Firefox browser.

I personally would update before installing DD-WRT. There are security vulnerabilities that have recently been patched. If you decide to go back to Linksys firmware, you will already be up to date.

Do not do a hard reset (also known as 30 30 30). It is unnecessary and can harm your new router.

Read this before you begin:

Hope this helps! Good luck and welcome to DD-WRT. Mr. Green

Thank you very much for your advice. I'll take a WRT1900ACS v.2 like that I'll be quiet for DD WRT and NordVPN.

Conceernant Build as I am a beginner it is better that I take a Beta or Stable not to much trouble early.

Finally I do not think there is a problem with builds and localization. On Amazon.com the WRT1900Acv.2 EU. :

https://www.amazon.fr/Linksys-WRT1900ACS-EU-Routeur-AC1900-MU-MIMO/dp/B0154B0GWG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516366197&sr=8-1&keywords=wrt1900acs-eu

And on Amazon.US a UK version.

The 'stable' and 'beta' terms are misleading. Builds are not considered 'stable' until they have been in use and tested for quite a while.
For this reason it will be outdated.

The latest beta version is almost always the best option.

Each time a beta build is released a corresponding thread on the Forum is created. Always check this thread before upgrading to see if there are any issues.

Here is an example of one of the latest build threads:
12-29-2017-r34311
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=312996

Here is the above mentioned build download link for the WRT1900ACSV2:
https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2017/12-29-2017-r34311/linksys-wrt1900acsv2/

Check for owners of the WRT1900ACS V2 to see what they are reporting. Most include their model number in the post and if they did not - they should.

Thank you for the info.

I read on shopping sites French comments for the WRT1900ACSv.2 EU, people have installed DD WRT and have no problems.

I think the location of the builds do not exist.

As soon as I receive it, I update Linsys + DD WRT and come back to you.

Thank you for helping each other.

Dear Bruno38,
There are still some happy owners of WRT`s series but majority of users and specially gamers want to stay from Linksys-Marvel design because of incredibly low level of this radio and firmware. Its still buggy after 2 years of development and miles away from Broadcom and Qualcomm-Atheros. Linksys stock software is another example of pure design.
Currently Nergear r7800 is the best all around and non expensive router working great with ddwrt Kong build based on 3.18 kernel. 4.x build is still fresh and not ready and in the test stage.

@vit5421 You are absolutely right, however, from my own observations the problems you referenced are mostly specific to the WRT3200ACM.

From what I have read, the WRT1900ACS (especially the V2) has received the least amount of complaints and is the most stable of all the Marvell series routers.

Also, the dual-partition on the WRTs still makes them an ideal choice for beginners to DD-WRT.
If you get into trouble - just swap partitions and try again.

But if u r buying a new router for long time why u will consider problematic wrt over great r7800? It will be strange I guess.

To be most stable at WRt its still far from r7800. U don't need duel partition for r7800 with Kong builds, coz its tested before uploaded to public

I have a few different dd-wrt compatible routers. I purchased the Netgear r7800 a few months ago as a refurb off Amazon and IMHO it’s OK but does not outperform the Linksys EA8500 as far as wireless performance goes. With my unscientific testing the EA85000 edges out the r7800 with the wireless Lan Speeds test that I performed. With any device selection there is going to be trade-offs. Both the EA8500 and R7800 may outperform the WRT’s wirelessly but neither the ea8500 or the r7800 can’t outperform the wrt3200acm running in ovpn mode with AES-256 encryption. The wrt3200 handles the encryption very well while both the EA8500 and R7800 struggle and see reduced ISP speeds.

I like to see a little more speed out of the wireless Lan speeds on the wrt3200 but it is acceptable. Wireless range is good and I have not experienced any dropped wireless connections nor has the dd-wrt functionally that I employ failed in any way. I’m running the alpha build r34459 on my ovpn 3200 and r34080 on my main router. I agree I’d had horrible luck with dd-wrt on the wrt1900acs with the recent builds but be that as it may the 3200 has performed well thanks to BS efforts. If it wasn’t for BS, then yes it would be time to run some 7.62x39 ammo into it at close range but not much point in that now since its working nicely for me. As far as trashing Linksys's entire product line as seen in the other thread due to the Marvell debacle is ridiculous. The EA8500 is my other go-to router and it’s been very reliable and is supported by both BS and Kong.

I've had my 1200 v1 for a while now and it's ran fine on both DD-WRT and LEDE/OpenWrt. I was going to sell it recently and go to a 3200, but after seeing all the problems others have had decided to stay with the 1200 since it's been issue free. My 1200 v1 doesn't have a fan, if i remember right it was only the 1900 (can't remember what version) that had a fan.

Hello,

Thank you all for your contributions. I am my WRT1900ACSv.2 this friday.

I chose the methods, that of keeping the Firmware Linsys and occupying the partition 2 with DD WRT.

Spuriousoffspring: Would you have a simple, basic tutorial to use PuTTY. In fact to enter the orders

1. Use the command ubootenv get boot_part to learn the partition in use.
2. Use the ubootenv set boot_part command (1 or 2 - the number was returned in step 1).

Thank you and good luck.

Best regards

Here ya go!

If SSH is not enabled in DD-WRT you can either Enable it or choose Telnet instead of SSH.
*Step 1 in Image.

Hello,

I received my WRT1900acs on Thursday and I can not take my hand. My Box does not go into Bridge mode.

According to the Forum SFR and former people who worked at Numéricable / SFR this would come from the MAC address.

In the Bridge mode I enter the Mac address which is the one of the box of packing, below the router as well as in the Diagnostic interface of WRT.

I know it's not DD WRT but I'm not there yet, I'm on the linsys interface for now.

Thank you and good Sunday

Bruno
