Thank you Ian for work, I flashed this image but unfortunately after download the router reboots perpetually.
I have anyway an "EU" version, I don't know if it's the problem.
So I flashed again LEDE Reboot 17.01.3 r3533-d0bf257c46 with luci en router work fine, but I would use it with Hotspot Systeme and Lede builds don't have free space to install services and anyway DD-WRT it's very easy to config.
I'll try to connect the seriall port for grabbing the booting up.

Try this file for the TP-Link 940N v4 EU. I have not tested it.

Start a new thread here on the forums, post the stuff I made and the boot logs. Create a ticket on the SVN and see what brainslayer or kong say. Don't forget to add a link to the wikidevi page or LEDE table of hardware page.

I would suggest flashing it via TFTP.
If it works great. If not, at least you can recover via TFTP. Same procedure just use the TP-Link file. (Page 1 of this thread)

I did find out that you can determine the filename the router is looking for by looking in the TFTP32/TFTP64 logs.

The outside of the box was marked by the store as "v3", but once I opened the router it said "TL-WR940N(US) Ver.6.0" on the label. This is the US retail version of the router. Before I noticed this, I tried the v3 firmware and the router rejected the .bin file. There is a v5 directory for the latest build of DD-WRT on the DD-WRT file server, but nothing explicitly for v6.

Try the 940N v6 files on page 1 of this thread. I modified the header of the v3 files and uploaded them here, I do not own this router so I can not test them. They are based on some version of dd-wrt, I can't remember which one now, you should be able to upgrade dd-wrt using the webupgrade file for however your router will identify itself in the DD-WRT GUI, Status tab.

Tried the "US" file posted at the beginning of this thread. The router rejected it. It said:

Error code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.

Same result with the "EU" file.

I'd be glad to donate a router to facilitate work on this model.

Did you try downgrading the factory firmware (TP-Link)?

If not, I can almost guarantee that TFTP will take the file. https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd#tftp_recovery_via_bootloader_for_v8_v9_v10_v11_v12

The problem is getting the filename the router is looking for. Try this: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr940n#recovery_information

Try getting the filename from TFTP32/TFTP64, in the programs logs.

If all else fails, get a USB-TTL, 3.3V cable, open up the router and connect it. Power on the router, it will tell you in the serial screen.

I used the oldest firmware they had posted, and also the newest. Couldn't get it to accept the files through the GUI.

Finally figured out how to do TFTP (you have to set up a SERVER on your machine, which you place at the address 192.168.0.66; name the file to be uploaded wr940nv6_tp_recovery.bin; and hold down the reset button as you boot the router). Tried letting the router (which gave itself the IP address 192.168.0.86) suck in each of the DD-WRT .bin files you posted. All I got was repeated reboots. Fortunately, I found that I could debrick by renaming the stock firmware to the same filename and letting the router suck that file in.

Did you even read the TFTP pages I linked to? A TFTP server on your computer holds the files. The router looks for a specific filename served by the computer on 192.168.0.66. I personally use TFTP32/TFTP64 as my TFTP server.

Here is a good guide on how to setup TFTP32/TFTP64: http://www.tricksguide.com/how-to-setup-a-tftp-server-tftpd32-windows.html

Just edited my earlier post to provide more detail. Yes, I figured out how the boot ROM did TFTP, but couldn't get the firmware files you posted to work.
