ok.

not gonna lie

I was in the middle of typing this long technical post about updating the FW but I realized I have the wrong fw on my unit. lol

maybe that's why my speeds are not consistant?? idk

anyway..can anyone confirm??

installed:
Linksys WRT160Nv3
Firmware Version
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini - build 14929

should have?
dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt160nv3.bin

from https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT150N_&_WRT160N

it works as it sits and has worked for the past 3 months as is. I just have it as an ap with dns and wireless off.

Edit: one thing I have noticed is my speed. On a speed test, it shoots to 20 and then is a steady decline to 1. Upload speed is the same way.

I’ve got it hardlined to an extender(Netgear WN3000RPv3) catching my house WiFi to get some internet out in my shop. Need to just setup a bridge and cut the Netgear out. But first, I need the new firmware, correct?

Edit 2: Is there a way to confirm which FW you have on the router besides just reading what it says??

the one I show on my router is DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini - build 14929

the wiki says I should have dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt160nv3.bin

what I'm asking, is if i'm on the right fw. I can not find my original download so I have no idea whats on it besides what it says.

O.k

now I'm really confused.

I was re-reading the wiki and found something interesting.
it talks about flashing the wrong firmware. It says you have to have a K26 build. It also says, if you don't it'll brick it. mines not bricked.

What I think I did was follow the v1 instructions since it uses a 14929 generic.
-could the 14929 be an entry FW and then i go to the one I want??

what should i do??

should i update from where i'm at or should i go back to stock and then start over??

I'm also thinking of picking up a newer build from maybe this year instead of 2010.

So your DD status page says you have a kernel v2.4.x right? Guess you're lucky. Too bad that device is only 4MB flash or you could use a k3x build. Unless you want to do some serious trimming w/ the Firmware Mod Kit. Razz

Should be no problem to flash k2.6 build over it; just be sure to reset afterward (GUI reset is fine). Use NG-Mixed wireless network mode.

One caveat with new k2.6 builds; repeater bridge with WPA2-AES is broken for k2.6 builds after 25974 (though some models might work through 26125). If that doesn't matter, go for it, I say. Smile
