Tonight I changed my DNS from 8.8.8.8 to 1.1.1.1, the ping to www.google.com instantly decreased from 13ms to 2ms!!! Oh well... so it's not the fault of DD-WRT.
update:
Today, the ping to www.google.com went back to 13ms. I did power off the router last night, DNS settings saved.
Nevertheless, if I directly set my client PC to use 1.1.1.1 as DNS, bypassing DD-WRT's DNSmasq, the ping became 2ms. So it seemed that DD-WRT's DNSmasq was really slowing down the DNS query.
Could I do something to fix that DNSmasq lag?
update again:
After going through the DNS settings all over again, the problem was fixed.

That's not kernel 3.0, but DD v3.0. Check the kernel version on the status page, or run `uname -a`. Check the CFE settings w/ `strings /dev/mtd0|grep -ie mac -e addr`, or hexedit the one you modified. As for the wireless; what bandwidth and Wireless Network Mode did you use? Don't use *-Only, and Mixed may also have issues; try NG-Mixed.
Sorry, report is updated

I have this same problem, but my first think is wrong modification of CFE
second is poor performance on 2.4G - maximum 80mbps with connection 216mbps
on 5g with 300mbps i have full performance, near 120mbps
cheers!
Confirmed my issue with MAC addresses.
After re-editing CFE (+2+4 not +2+3) and re-flashing I don't have duplicated any MAC's addresses between 2,4 and 5Ghz

Well.. I am the only device connected/authorized to router while this happens multiple times and at almost hourly intervals
The only stupid thing I was doing was occasionally reading the log? & time stamp of errors don't correlate
Also every time I log in to GUI:
daemon.info httpd[1465]: Authentication fail
daemon.err httpd[1465]: Request Error Code 401: Authorization required. please note that the default username is "root" in all newer releases
This one seams to be the NEW unspoken norm occurring on multiple devices and all newer firmware's
SFTP no longer connects (downgraded to SCP only)
Fills up flash so no room for jffs2
but hey..no brick, wireless seams stable, WL0/WL1 temps are cool (No CPU temp?) and load average is 0.00,0.01,0.04

I can only get 5GHz mode to work when selecting N-only(5GHz) as my mode on my E2000. If I use Mixed or NG-Mixed, my devices always connect at a slower speed and to a 2.4GHz channel. WiFi Analyzer shows 144Mbps on Mixed mode, and when using 5GHz, I get 300Mbps. Is there a way to broadcast both a 5GHz and a 2.4GHz signal so my older devices can still connect, but my newer ones can utilize the faster speeds?

after a whole month on this firmware, I have noticed that on my ASUS AC-66U with two things I can't figure out
1) after 3-5 days usage. I will lose gmail.com DNS look up. every "popular" site will be fine. I have to do a hard reboot and it comes back. Very annoying
2)5GHZ is being very problematic with my Pixel 2 XL. it takes 45sec - 60sec to connect to the internet. Not sure why. _________________ ASUS RT-AC3200 - Deployed Client's site

it just suddenly can't resolve mail.google.com. But a reboot of the router fixes, but it's annoying as hell having to reboot it every few days _________________ ASUS RT-AC3200 - Deployed Client's site

Is it just mail.google.com or is it other sites as well? Keep in mind that how DNS service works is if a lookup fails the DNS service tucks that failure away and when you try again the router says I know that does not resolve so I will not even try. After a period of time this info is flushed out of DNS. You can also play around a little with other DNS servers with nslookup.
I assume you have checked your client, if windows, with ipconfig to see that a DNS server is given. Can the client ping the router? Can you ping 8.8.8.8?
The Above was done directly on the DDwRT router. clients (windows) are the same even using nslookup mail.google.com 8.8.8.8
Yes 8.8.8.8 is pingable
I will have to try a level 3 when the next time this happens again.
It will work for a few days _________________ ASUS RT-AC3200 - Deployed Client's site
