One router fried one month in and had to return, its replacement one week in, wan port simply doesnt work, no light no internet, modem direct connect works fine, wan port wont light up, new cable didnt work, pretty sure kong firmware is overloading the wan port or something and frying the circuitry. Model is stock isp router, 0 chance of it causing any of this and never had this problem before i moved to kong + r7000. This is kong latest firmware for r7000 dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD.bin 2018 version.

If that was the case you wouldn't be the ONLY one. I know one way you can fry a WAN/LAN port Static-Electricity. I been running KONG/DDWRT firmware for years. Counting a total of 6 family and my R7000s using KONG firmware with no dead ports.

Agreed. Counting friends and family, 5 R7000s all running Kong's builds without issues.

I've probably flashed kong's firmware on hundreds of units, if you count r7000, r6300v2, r6400, rt-ac68 etc

Sorry but this is a load of bs...

Most probably it's your internet modem killing your router... I had plenty of routers killed because of stupid dsl/cable providers not grounding their network properly and frying everything in the neighborhood during storms, thank god I've moved to fiber...

You should be running your cable, modem, and router through an UPS.

According to my stats there are ~35000 installations on the R7000. You are the first one saying that it broke the wan port:-)

More likely is, that you disabled it, which can be done by pressing the rest button at the wrong time when booting.

Or it is still active, but some other issue, like incompatible modem. A simple tcpdump will tell if there are any packages going in and out the wan port, or if it is deactivated etc.

The wan led has nothing to do with the physical state of the port, just connect the wan port to a regular pc and check if the led on the network port of your pc lights up.

You guys are all wrong. Kong firmware overloaded my WAN port, too. It was so bad that the whole router exploded and killed my family + me.
