I have updated my Archer C7 v2 to the latest 35681 and was surprised that "ipkg" is no longer available. Searching on the forum I found suggestions to use "opkg" instead which requires me to have a USB drive.

Question: since which build ipkg has been removed?
How do I supposed to install .ipk files on /jffs now?
Is there a way to get ipkg back manually?

Thanks

I would suggest using Entware. It has a much more up-to-date package list: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Entware

As for when it was removed, it is probably listed somewhere on the svn: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/timeline

Note, the Archer C7 is Atheros based, so mips.

I looked but could not find it right off the bat.

Is there a way to install opkg into /jffs without using USB? If not, what would be the official way to get back ipkg?

In broadcom sometimes there is free space on the flash which can be used to install some packages, this is called JFFS2 space. You can enable it on the Admin page.

I have never seen it working on Atheros though.

Here is a solution:

1. Download and extract older firmware, ex, https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2017/10-17-2017-r33525/tplink_archer-c7-v2/tplink_archer-c7-v2.bin
2. Find ipkg at ./bin and ipkg.conf at ./etc
3. Transfer ipkg to your /jffs/bin (use wget or scp)
4. chmod +x ipkg
5. Transfer ipkg.conf to /jffs/etc
6. Start ipkg using: IPKG_CONF_DIR=/jffs/etc /jffs/bin/ipkg install /your/file.ipk
