Hi
I have installed DD-WRT on my WRT320N and it is working fine. I have been trying to upgrade it to an E2000 unit. I want to install OpenVPN and use ONLY the Wired Ports in conjunction with, possibly, NordVPN or some other Outside Service to process all of my ISP traffic behind my Integrated Modem/Router using VPN.
My question is will the OpenVPN "process traffic" faster if I upgrade my unit to an E2000 or leave it where it is right now (with respect to 8MB versus 32MB of memory available). I assume that the processor will probably work at the same speed so I probably should just upgrade the current version to an OpenVPN binary and I will be good to go. Can anyone help me in confirming my assessment before I go to the next step. Thanks

Not sure about the wrt320n but with my wrt610n (it's convertible to an e3000). you can wind up with the extra space without doing the conversion nowadays. If you follow the proper instructions! I had to do it twice to succeed. You could give it a shot. Source: https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311666&highlight=

Obviously substitute the files for the matching wrt320n ones

Thank you for your replies. I understand what you mean and I have found WRT320N files somewhat like what you have identified but with different release number. I have found 'dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin' and 'dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2000.bin which might be similar to those from the article you highlighted. There numbers are a bit off as I cannot find the exact ones shown in the article. My router currently is running:
'DD-WRT v24-sp2 mini (c) 2010 NewMedia-NET GmbH
Release: 08/12/10 (SVN revision: 14929)'
My intent was to go to:
'dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin'
and then
'dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2000.bin'
I have already revised the cfe.bin file to 'my router' settings from a downloaded 'cfe_e2k.bin' file for Mac #, S/N and Pin # and will put it in after the upgrade to:
'dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e2000.bin'. What I am wondering about, however, is for what I want to do (mentioned in my original post) as it relates to "whether upgrading to an E2000" will make the Routers any faster at processing VPN encryption?
Or should I just install OpenVPN now as the next item and not go through all the trouble, if there is no substantial gain. Thanks
Robert

Other than the extra space which you should (may) receive from the process I mentioned...Zero difference to my knowledge

Try r35244 (03/05/18) as your final.

I was not able to find a E2000 binary for r35244, Is that going to be a problem? I could only find 'ddwrt-linksys-wrt32x-webflash.bin' under 'WRT320N' but nothing for E2000. So your recommendation is if I stay with the WRT320N and not upgrade to an E2000, is that correct?

The builds should function more or less the same with or without the conversion.
Try the build closest to the date 3-5-18.

If you are saying you can't find current builds? You would have to convert it.

Thanks. No, I haven't looked in the right place because I don't know where to look. My bad!
