Hi All,
As the subject line states, I'm trying to get my 1043NDv3 (v3.0-r34777) to use the Huawei 8372 (4G usb dongle) as a modem.

I've read a heap of threads and found most of them less than useless. The general wiki is that out of date, I don't know where to start.

Some say, try a Kong build, but from my reading the 1043ND3 isn't supported....
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=981561

The closest I've got is reading this thread:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=707000

No love here:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=981336#981336

or here:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=734096

but I don't know what commands to execute to get the results that are shown; so I don't know where to start...

This thread isn't much help either:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=729092

I'm running a Win10 laptop (no other choice of machine in the area so please don't suggest I use a Ubuntu box for debugging as that won't work).

This is some of the output that I have thus far:

welcome - to the usb modem / mobile broadband roller coaster Smile

your modem E8372 is listed in the mbb wiki as work in progress:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Mobile_Broadband#Huawei

that translates from my expierence to:
oh no - you're out of luck sir
maybe LOM will reply and let you in on some details.

take a look at my thread https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1128265#1128265 and consider an alternative mentioned there for now.

It's not that there is no progress here in general - the focus just doesn't seem to be on mobile broadband.

Hi hackler756,
Can you at least let me know what commands I need to run to get the system to attempt to start working and basic configuration needs to look like and what I'm looking for. I don't even know a valid starting point or what tests to run or what a positive test looks like.

Regards

here are all the steps:

first flash your device to r33679
important: if you are downgrading from on a newer release, reset to factory defaults and re-setup your basic LAN setup.

mbb setup via web ui:
Services / Services / System Log
enable Syslogd
enable Klogd

Services / Services / WAN Traffic Counter
enable ttraff Daemon
[Save]

Services / USB / USB Support
enable Core USB Support
enable USB Storage Support
[Save]

Setup / Basic Setup / WAN Connection Type
Connection Type "Mobile Broadband"
Dial String "*99# ..."
APN "from your operator"
PIN "USIM PIN"
Connection Type "Auto ..."
disable Force Reconnect
[Save]

Setup / Administration / Management
[Reboot Router]

Connect your USB Modem and check the logs via
Status / Syslog
OR
ssh tail -f /var/log/messages

usefull debug output
copy / paste carefully as single line and run from web gui / Administraton / Commands [Run Commands]
Code:
cd /tmp; uname -a; nvram get DD_BOARD; nvram get os_version; lsusb; for i in usb_modeswitch.conf comgt-netmode.out comgt.out ppp/options.pppoe .ipt .rule; do echo; echo ---- \${i}; echo; cat \${i}; done;

Please check your output before you post it. It might contain your IP and sensitive information, you don't want to publish.

nvram commands are in my mbb inventory thread

if mbb connection was successfull, you should see a WAN IP and a time top right side of web gui
