I really shouldn't need to ask this question here but..... It seems no one at Quantumfiber tech support can answer simple questions about compatibility. While inquiring about their new fiber optic service that has recently become available to me, of course they encourage using their own routers and discourage using 3rd party equipment. The website does say not all routers will work (which I assume must be the older stuff) but fails to supply a list of what will work. 2 things I did get from hrs. on chat and phone are that #1 ... There routers can be put in "bridge" mode and wireless shut off and, #2.. verbal conformation that Netgear7800s will work. I will be using Linksys EA8500s (which no one had ever heard off) in WDS mode. Anyone here using Quantumfiber and there own stuff ? If there router can be put in bridge mode then it shouldn't matter whats hooked to it . Right? Not looking for any guarantees, just someone who maybe has it working with an EA8500. _________________ ......All GOOD here... Just Handshakes and Time Stamps !......
Now speed aside, I am absolutely certain that any router loaded with dd-wrt firmware will work with this ISP.
Looking at their speed packages, they do offer 500mbps and 1gbps. Not all routers can do these speeds as we still have routers to this very day still being sold with 100mbps WAN/LAN interfaces, ye ol "MIPS" SOC, and a few other old things that would make a router seem like its stuck in any year before 2013. E.G. Netgear R6120
Me and my brother in law have witnessed some people still holding on to their old gear because "it still works" and probably even expect it to actually do the same amazing things your fancy Qualcomm Atheros router or any other high end router would be capable of doing.
The Netgear R7800 would be a much better choice over the Linksys EA8500 since the SOC in the Netgear R7800 operates at a clock speed of 1.7ghz and has 512mb of ram. The Linksys EA8500 is basically like a Netgear R7500v2.
There is also the Linksys WRT3200acm and WRT32x. They are both exactly the same with the only difference being color and looks. It has a Marvell 1.8ghz processor and 512mb of ram. The only main issue I have seen people talk about with this router is the wifi but I rarely have any issues with it. Other than that, these routers seem pretty great for people who prefer to use ethernet over WiFi.
Now if you do find yourself wanting to also run Network Attached Storage or "NAS" Services and the swap partition is not helping much, It may be time to look into an x86 router that you can run dd-wrt x86 on.

Thanks, so hook it up just like it is now with Spectrum. And I know this, but it just makes you wonder why they say there is a list of working routers and they say mines not on it. And these guys call themselves techs. They have about 6 different routers they provide but know one can tell you which one you get till you get it. My main concern was can you shut off there 5g & 2.4g signal since I'm in a crowded area with to many signals now. I had to work my way up the chain before any one could assure me I could, indeed turn there's off. Thanks Guys ! _________________ ......All GOOD here... Just Handshakes and Time Stamps !......
