Now updated to Firmware Version
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/03/09) std - build 11712 was running the default version from your Supported Hardware database page.
The signal strength has increased from -70dBm to -60dBm, this is still a lot lower than the default EOC firmware, that had a signal strength of -30dBm. The EOC has been placed at the same distance during all tests.
If I enable Extended Range from the Wireless-Basic page the signal decreases yet again from -60dBm to -65dBm.
Changing the tx power from the now default 20 (was 27 on last firmware) to any other number has no effect what so ever on the signal strength.
In addition, changing the tx power and saving the settings – these settings are not changed in the Status-Wireless page. This page still shows the default tx Power at 20dBm.
Can you please advise if this problem is been looked into, or if it has been fixed and I have the wrong firmware version. If I have the wrong firmware version can you let me know the correct version?
DD-WRT firmware has fantastic advantages over default firmware, please help me take advantage of this by providing the link to the “this is fixed” firmware or if I can help in testing please let me know.

If everything was ok the eoc1650 would be able to connect to a WiFi repeater station 200 meters away with direct line of site. The site survey does not show the repeater station until I am about 20 meters away. At 200 meters even my laptop can pick up the WiFi repeater station.

only just tested this, could the issues be linked. Seems too much of a coincidence that transmit power is weak and you need to be very close to a repeater station for it to show in the site survey.

check the antenna and the cable. or u have to use a better antenna!
it sounds that there is something wrong. or the eoc has a damaged rf.

I can confirm the problem, i'm experiencing the same thing.
In the site survey no accespoints are shown although there are multiple, if i place one of my wrt's in the same location with standard antenna's i can see at least 10 AP's. However a wrt54g access point about 30 meters away sees my 1650 with -63 dBm.
I can change the output to 23dB but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
I also have a 2610 but haven't checked that one.
(Btw super fast shipping to Holland in 1 day !, thanks !)

Ok, checked the 2610 and it has the same problem.
Running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/04/09) std (SVN revision 11719).
The 2610 has somewhat better results as i now see 3 AP's , but i'm using a slightly better antenna.
Both devices right out of the box, nothing tampered with.

I have now tested using a new external antenna and the signal strength has improved, but it is still LOWER than it was with the origional EOC firmware and the internal antenna..
Can you please re-test your firmware on this device as there is obviously a problem that you have not yet found.
