Hi All

I am trying to set up a 2610 as a universal repeater by a) setting the main wireless mode to Client Bridge
and b) adding a virtual interface (AP mode) with a different SSID.

If I have the main wireless set to AP then I can see both the main SSID and the virtual SSID (using a laptop wireless client).

As soon as I set the main wireless to Client Bridge mode, then both the main and virtual SSIDs disappear, even after rebooting the 2610 twice (as suggested in the support Wiki).

I am testing off-site in the absence of the source network, so the main wireless interface (Client Bridge) will never associate with its target SSID. However, the secondary (virtual) interface should still be active, or should it?

Is what I am trying to do possible with a 2610?

Am I doing it the right way?

Will the problem go away when I get the unit on-site and the Client Bridge part can associate properly?

Thanks for any advice

Hi, an easy way to test it, is to come with a secondary router configured as AP, and to connect to it as it was the real one, so will know if your config is working or not.

Thanks for your replies.

I have the unit on-site now and it is working as advertised EXCEPT it is acting as a gateway not a transparent bridge

i.e. all clients connected to the virtual wireless interface appear to the rest of the network to have the MAC of the 2610.

The client is using hotspot software which uses the MAC of the client to control internet access, so I need to get the transparent bridge function working.

any ideas?

cheers

Hi, not sure, but to me a client bridge should do the trick, and pass the MAC addresses.

Not sure if DD-WRT does allow it. Will see what say Sash, or may be ask BS.

Michel.

this is correct and cant be changed. its part of the design. only wds is nearly a transparend bridge in some impelementations. so u have to do routing and restrict by ip

Hmmm that's a shame; the original EnGenius firmware had the transparent bridge option (I am using it on a couple of EOC-3220 units at the same site).

I can't seem to get the 2610 to talk WDS to the source AP - an EnGenius EOC-3220 - either. Any hints there?

Cheers
