I got a WR740N unit a few months ago and I'm pretty impressed with the stability of this router, but I do feel it could offer even more if it had DD-WRT.
I gathered all the information I could on the web to help DD-wrt being ported to it. This device has the exact same hardware as the WR741ND, with the only difference being the non-deatachable antenna on the 740N, but only 741ND is supported ATM.
WR740N has a V2 version being shipped nowadays, but seems like it´s a cosmetic remodelling of the cover and the hardware didn't change at all. The latest firmware from TP-Link for the V1 of the router is same file for the V2:

TL-WR740N_v1v2_100910.zip
Let me know if you guys need more info.

I flashed my WR841ND v5 using web flash image, without tftp.
As soon as you get telnet/ssh access, you can study internals and check what is the real difference of WR740N from WR741ND, if any.
My understanding that the only difference is non-detachable antennas.

to get a WR1043ND for me ( it has 8MB flash ).
Good choice. You should not have a problem to flash it via web interface.
Native (stock) WR1043ND firmware is also surprisingly stable. I have it in front of me now, WAN connection is PPPoE (+2nd interface for connection to ISP network), and it seems it can handle my traffic (~50GB per day via torrent) much better than ASUS WL500G Premium (dd-wrt v24 sp2).

Hey everyone! I was just looking to put ddwrt on my TP-Link WR740N and I was wondering on how that was going. I can help test out some builds if you would like me to.
