To put it simply, is there any way of achieving 108Mbit connections connecting to either Atheros (I also have broadcom (does dd-wrt support afterburner?) in my other laptop)? Super G should only be available in atheros chipsets (to my understanding), but I was wondering if any of the compression or burst modes will allow me to boost my overall network speed. I've looked on the wiki but from what I have found these sections are incomplete.

Thank you.

The Broadcom and Atheros chipsets each use different and mutually exclusive proprietary techniques to go above the 54 mbps standard speeds. This means that while you can usually now happily mix and match hardware in standard G modes, that's as far as it goes.
As for dd-wrt, current Atheros builds do not support the Turbo mode (channel bonding) as described by BrainSlayer in this thread: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31029&sid=f91b7efd58799091b35afb3330b81a2d
Whether the other settings comprising the Super-G extensions are functional I can't say (I haven't tried them), but they would only provide an incremental speed increase!
So for the time being at least, if you need speeds >100mbps then you'll need to run stock (or run Broadcom exclusively with dd-wrt if it supports Afterburner - or whatever) factory firmware! Or you can invest in 802.11N hardware...

turbo mode is not channel bonding!
turbo mode IS working in 5ghz!
channelboning is working, too!

OK, I guess I got 'em backwards! But you missed the point... Since he is implying a G only type router and not an A only or A/G type it would not run 5ghz so your statement would seem to not apply here... or do you know a way to activate A channels on G only routers?

on g we do not support turbo right now. but its in progress. its completelly different handled in 2.4 as in 5 ghz.

about compression. atheros does support compression, but i do not use it since it will not allow wpa encryption etc. which is more important than getting 30% more speed on uncompressed content only. (almost any bigger content is compressed unfortunatly)
