Steve Zenone did a nice writeup of getting OpenVPN up and running on dd-wrt. I used a combination of that and some other sources to get mine up and running with changes (key files in jffs, etc.) but didn't document it. I need to do a new setup so I'll see about documenting it better this time and dumping it into the wiki.

I want to run openvpn client on WRT54G2. i am running openvpn client successfully on WRT54G v3. i have searched many posts but unable to find answer.
I have updated dd-wrt micro plus on router but can not upgrde it to vpn firmware. when i upgrade it through web interface, Router reboots and same micro plus over there.
guys I can tell you this; if you really want your network to work - then don't bother setting a vpn on your little router
what you want to do is get a good Pentium-3/4 pc then install linux and openvpn server
now install openvpn client on every wire / wireless node.
then remove all wep/wpa stuff from your wrt54g, also separate WLAN / LAN - block everything from wireless interface, except to openvpn-server port 1194
done deal...
not yet...use google you'll find plenty docs how-to setup openvpn - if you need help post your question here... I'll answer as much as I can - remember I am no pro...
however my network is working - and that's the I have installed it.

I think here it's a solution to enable the protocol 47 on this router, and then, can use the windows vpn client to acces a vpn server inside our lan (or behind) the router..
try this:
