Ive got an airlink 101 router with dlink dir300 firmware on it.

I'd like to adjust the power transmission of the antenna. I change the power settings on the wireless page(to something like 33) , but when I go to the
status->sys-info page, it says "Xmit
17 dBm"

Is the firmware locked so that only 17dbm is supported, or can it be actually changed?

Yeah, you can set it, for example, to 15dBm if you want, but something beyond 17dBm would set it just to 17dBm.

Cheers.

Thanks, wasn't sure.

I read somewhere else people talking about 100, 90 80, high numbers like that but according to you that's the max this router puts out.

Other than that, does the antenna gain do anything?

If the power settings numbers in DD-WRT equate to anything, it would be mW and not dBm. Because if you could adjust your TX to 251 dBm, you could easily send WiFi to the moon Wink

You can use THIS CHART to get a cross reference for a setting that wont exceed your specs.
Example: 51mW = 17dBm
